Ordnance Explodes in Vietnam Schoolyard
Jan 28, 2010
On January 27, in the late afternoon, Vietnamese schoolchildren were reminded that the explosive effects of Vietnam War ordnance have not yet gone away.

In the city of Dong Ha, in Quang Tri province, ordnance hidden since the Vietnam War exploded just outside a schoolhouse, according to reports from the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.

While no one was harmed in the blast, the explosion scattered shrapnel, earth, and a large tree trunk across the schoolyard.

For Survivor Corps, the explosion serves as yet another example of the importance of landmine advocacy and ongoing trauma recovery in Vietnam.

Since 2003, Survivor Corps has worked in Vietnam with Landmine Survivors Network Vietnam, based in Dong Hoi City, 90 minutes north of the January 27th blast.
