Ordnance Explodes in Vietnam Schoolyard

On January 27, in the late afternoon, Vietnamese schoolchildren were reminded that the explosive effects of Vietnam War ordnance have not yet gone away.

In the city of Dong Ha, in Quang Tri province, ordnance hidden since the Vietnam War exploded just outside a schoolhouse, according to reports from the International Campaign to Ban Landmines.

While no one was harmed in the blast, the explosion scattered shrapnel, earth, and a large tree trunk across the schoolyard.

Jasmina was injured in shelling attack in Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1992. She received multiple injuries and had forearm and below-the-knee amputations. Her mother was killed in the same incident, and her father re-married and left her and her brother with their aunt and uncle. Jasmina learned about Survivor Corps partner organization LSN-Bosnia-Herzegovina from the local prosthetic center in 1999. Her leg prosthesis was in a very bad shape at the time and LSN-Bosnia-Herzegovina paid for the fitting of a new device. Jasmina married in 2000 and gave birth to a beautiful son.
